FDM 3D printing service

Your parts are printed on the Bambu Lab P2S and X2D printers in our own workshop. An enclosed chamber and a 300 °C nozzle mean a wide range of materials, from PLA to carbon-reinforced nylon.

Design tips

Layer-built parts are weaker across the layers than along them. Your part is sliced and priced in the orientation you upload it in; if strength needs a particular orientation, upload the model that way round.

Semi-crystalline and high-temperature materials shrink and warp more than PLA. Large flat faces and long thin spans are the usual problems. The manufacturability warnings show these on your own part rather than as generic advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is FDM 3D printing?

FDM (fused deposition modelling, also called FFF) builds a part by laying down molten plastic filament through a fine nozzle, layer by layer. It is economical, works with a wide range of materials, and is one of the most common methods for functional parts and prototypes.

How large a part can you print?

The largest part we can print in one go is shown in the “Sizes and tolerance” card on this page — the size every one of our printers can print. You can split a bigger part in the model and upload the pieces as separate files; the quote tells you up front if a part does not fit.

What does layer height mean, and which should I choose?

It is the height of each layer. A thin layer (such as the 0.12 mm fine-detail profile) gives a smoother surface and crisper detail but takes longer to print, so it costs more. For functional parts the standard profile is usually enough.

What tolerance does FDM hold?

The process's typical tolerance is shown on this page and on every quote. It is typical, not guaranteed for every part: leave clearance in fits and holes, and write to us before ordering if you have critical dimensions.

Which printers are the parts made on?

On the Bambu Lab P2S and X2D printers in our own workshop. Both have an enclosed chamber and a 300 °C nozzle, so engineering and carbon-fibre filaments print alongside PLA and PETG. Your order is never passed to another workshop.
